[Icc-avr] Serial port already open

In Microsoft's knowledge base, there's a registry key edit to disable
auto-discovery of mice on serial ports - or, when you have other devices on
the serial port which are sending while XP boots - with auto-discovery on,
XP screws up. Ah, the naieve fools in Redmond.

John & Bob,

We have had this problem with XP on many occasions as weighing
equipment usually outputs a serial string in a streaming fashion. So
what we have done is get your system to have the problem than go to my
computer and right click, go to properties and then device manager. Go
to Mice and other pointing devices and disable the rouge device in all
profiles.

I hope this helps.

Hi Bob,

We have had the same problem here. It turns out that if your AVR
connected to the Serial Port spews data before you open the terminal
window XP decides it is a serial mouse. It opens a connection to it and
doesn't release the port. Try disconnecting the development system,
rebooting XP and starting the terminal window before reconnecting the
development system.
